Tests for carrier grips

Considering the importance of this component the laboratory has developed for its in-house use a special  procedure for the verification of the clamping power of the grip. The procedure has been approved by the Ministry.

This series of tests is expected to come up with the necessary data for the supervisory authority to be able to assess the conformity with the standards, the technical soundness of suggested solutions as well as the suitability for the intended purpose of a new grip model and hence its acceptability.

These tests are sometimes carried out with grips that are still in use after many years of service with a view to assessing their unchanged efficiency.

The test series includes dimensional tests, tests of springs, tests of their sliding resistance, assessment of the clamping power, assessment of their performance and determination of stress variations and plotting of a stress chart.

The laboratory has developed own test procedures and built the necessary test equipment seen that there are no standards for tests of the kind.

The most significant test is the testing procedure developed to determine the sliding resistance of a tightened grip under testing conditions conforming to the specifications of the grip maker.

The hydraulic cylinder develops the required tensile force while the holding force of the grip at failure is recorded by a purpose-made load cell.
